User Page
From KayakWiki
A user page on kayakwiki, is a page describing a user. The page is linked automatically from the Recent changes page, and also the individual 'Revision History', for any logged-in user who edits kayakwiki. In this way, a user page is a useful way of having a sense of identity, for anyone participating the kayakwiki community.

[edit] Creating your own User Page
If you haven't already chosen a username, you should register with kayakwiki
Then you should edit some pages. On the To do list there's plenty of ideas for areas of kayakwiki where you can help. Bear in mind that if you are not willing to invest any time editing pages, then nobody on kayakwiki will be interested in reading your user page anyway, so why bother creating one?!
Now look on Recent changes to see your edits. You will see your username, as a link to an empty page ('?' marks). Click to create the new page. This is your user page.
[edit] User Names
User pages take the name of the user. You should chose a user name which doesn't conflict with existing pages on kayakwiki.
[edit] What to put on your user page
Your user page is your own area to describe yourself and your interests in as little or as much detail as you like. Bare in mind we're all kayakers, so you might want to focus the information on your kayaking interests. e.g. What type of kayaking do you do? What Places do you regularly go kayaking?
If you supply contact details, remember that these are available to everyone on the internet, even bad people. You might want to avoid providing your email address directly, since this will be available for spammers to get hold of. Note that the Linking policy is a bit more relaxed for user pages. Feel free to link to your company website, or other cool websites from here.
[edit] Linking to your user page
You can link to your user page from any kayakwiki page. However, linking to your user page normally only occurs in discussions such as those on Discussion pages. In discussions you can sign your name after adding a commment to a discussion. Also put the date.
Example comment signature: "-- [[User:Harry Wood]] - 7th Dec 2004"
Note generally you should not put your username in the contents of a normal article. There is no need to claim credit for your writing explicitly, and doing so might deter other people from working on the text. Your edits are credited to your username automatically, in the revision history of the page.
