Tyne Tour

From KayakWiki

The Tyne Tour is a big river kayaking annual event (a Rendezvous) in North England, on the river Tyne. It is organised every November by volunteers from the Region, attracting around 1000 paddlers (including many University Clubs and other clubs from around the UK). Money raised from the Tour is used to support regional clubs, particularly with training for club members wishing to become coaches.

The event is a general fun get together, with a big party in the evening, involving drunkeness and dancing, and some form of Camping accomodation. There will be trade stands, including major resellers of outdoor and kayak equipment. There is also a competitive race down a section of the Tyne. This is about 7 miles, most of which is on grade 2 water although it does pass through the infamous Warden Gorge which can be grade 3, some would say grade 4 in high water conditions. The are separate classes for 'Topo Duo' and 'open canoe' competitors, but generally it's not to be taken too seriously. Just a bit of fun, but there will be some valuable prizes... For junior paddlers, there will be an opportunity to take part in the first race of the Junior Wavehopper Challenge 2007.

This year the event is organised for the second time by Hexham Canoe Club. Tickets are £17.50 per person. This includes camping and the party afterwards! (The party will be a traditional Northumbrian Ceilidh, that's a dance with a 'caller' who tells you the moves, so you've no excuse for not joining in) For booking details see the website
