Quality surf is a limited resource; it is found at unique locations and forms under specific conditions. See Surf wave. An ever expanding number of wave users compete over this scarce resource. Although many kayaks can ride poor quality surf, the continued evolution and sophistication in surf specific kayak technology has more and more surf kayakers competing for these higher quality waves; this competition leads to numerous issues, including:
