Storm paddle stroke
From KayakWiki
The storm paddle uses a full sliding stroke.
The point to the storm paddle is that there is no blade hanging extended outward to catch the wind. Once you have the basics down, Maligiaq recommends a canted paddle angle (top edge tilted forward) and often you will lean strongly forward in high winds, to "dodge" the wind, like tucking forward on a bike. With a normal stroke most of the water will wind up on your foredeck. Your hands will get wet. If you have water running down your arms then you may be lifting your arms too high. Generally your hands don't rise above shoulder height and your elbows point downwards. Your hands will cross the centerline on virtually every stroke. As in any good stroke you need to anchor your lower body and drive the paddle from your legs and torso rather than just your arms.
