Station
From KayakWiki
In shipbuilding, a station is a vertical plane through the vessel perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the vessel.
In building a strip built boat, a cross section drawing mounted on plywood is often mounted to a strongback every foot or so. The strips are then clamped or stapled along the length of the boat from one cross section to the next. These positions, labeled from the front of the boat, are the stations. They are often at 1 foot, 2 feet, etc. and are known as station 1, 2 etc.
