Spray skirt

(Redirected from Spray deck)
Also called spray deck or a spray cover.
One of the key features that makes a kayak seaworthy. A spray skirt or spray deck is designed to keep water from entering the kayak through the cockpit. Made of a highly elastic material, usually neoprene or nylon, a spray skirt fits around the waist of the paddler and hooks over the lip of the cockpit. This provides a water resistant barrier, blocking most water even during a Roll or a Trashing.
- Neoprene spray skirts can stretch to fit a variety of cockpits. They are warm and flexible.
- Nylon spray skirts are less expensive and cooler in warm weather.
Nylon spray skirts can slip on a plastic rim. To improve the grip you can glue (with goop) a strip of carpet non-slip material to the underside along the edge.
