Speed

From KayakWiki

When people speak of the speed of a kayak, what they really mean is the efficiency. Given a strong enough paddler any kayak can go as fast as you want. If you hung a 200 horse power engine on the back you could really make a kayak cruise. What you really want to know is, given your power output how fast can you make a given design go? This is related to the drag the design produces at a given speed. With all kayaks, the drag increases as the speed increases. With an efficient design the drag does not increase as quickly as in inefficient design.
