Solace 18EX
From KayakWiki
The Solace 18EX has a waterline of 208-inches at 18'3" long. Its beam is 22-inches. It is a very fast, very stable stitch and glue with a low aftdeck and a higher volume foredeck. It's basically a rocket that tracks very well without much effort to steer. The unfortunate aspect of this is that it is difficult to turn due to resistance at the stern. This can be corrected by using a rudder or similar turning aid, somethign not unexpected for such a long sea kayak. It has a high capacity for stowage, capable of carrying a months supply of equipment and food for those long treks in the wilderness. I had a chance to paddle one of these in September, 2003 and was thrilled see how fast it went. It did not handle well in short period waves as I was tossed sideways attempting to stay straight. It needs a secondary steering mechanism to handle better in messy conditions.
