Skill

From KayakWiki

Skills are a critical factor in safety. Your skills can be called upon when good judgement has failed!

In sea kayaking, rolling skills aren't mandatory, but the ability to roll is a very valuable skill. The process of learning to roll will help one develop bracing and balance skills that otherwise would not have been tried. For whitewater, rolling skills should be considered mandatory.

Effective and efficient paddle forward strokes enable a paddler to paddle for longer distances with less effort. If the stuff hits the fan at the end of a long day, having conserved that energy earlier in the day could prove to be a lifesaver.

Rescue and recovery skills mean the difference between a minor inconvenience, and a major threat to your health, body core temperature, or continued oxygen uptake!
