Sine curve

The sine is a transcendental function equal to the ratio of two sides in a right triangle (the side opposite the angle over the hypotoneuse). If you plot the sine function vs the angle, it is periodic with a period of 2π. The resulting shape is a smooth wave-like undulation. Not surprisingly, solutions to many wave equations can be represented as linear combinations of sine waves.
