Signalling device

From KayakWiki

Signalling devices are used to communicate with rescuers and other boats. They fall into two catagories: Attention getting and Location marking. Attention getting signalling devices provide more safety protection because they can be used when the person you are signalling does not know you are there. Location marking is most useful when you already have the attention of an observer. They are used when a rescuer knows you are out there, but is having trouble determining exactly where you are. Many signalling devices can be used both as an attention getter and a location marker.

See Attention getting for examples of signaling devices.
See Distress symbol for examples of standard signals and symbols used to indicate distress.
