Saber saw
From KayakWiki
Also known as a Jig Saw. Basically any saw that allows cutting out a curved shape will work.
It is best to cut a bit outside the line then finish up using a tabletop disk sander, sanding down to the lines.
The tolerance plus or minus is somewhere around + 0" - 1/16". Don't sweat a little nick or gouge, your strips will bridge the gap. A bump or knob is much worse because your strips will protrude and will not lay flat.
