Rotary cooling

From KayakWiki

Rotary Cooling is a method of using cooler water to carry off excess body heat generated under protective clothing. There are two basic techniques use to achieve this.

  • For practiced paddlers, the Eskimo roll is a quick and easy way to cool off.
  • For less experienced paddlers the bow dip or Eskimo Rescue (see Bow presentation) achieves the same effect. Even novice paddlers can stay cool with this technique if they can stay in their boat while inverted. For a bow dip, position two kayaks in a "T" formation. The dipee grabs the bow of the other boat and lowers themself into the water. When it's time to come back up they pull themself up by the bow of the other boat. Note that it is important to keep the bow of the supporting boat in front of the dipee.

You can also use the balance brace or sculling brace to avoid rolling or having to hold onto another kayak.
