Rescue rope
From KayakWiki
In whitewater kayaking, a rescue rope is a floating rope with a static breaking strength of at least 500 kg (1100 lb) (ref: Walbridge). It should be thick enough that it can be held in the hand; small diameter rope will be painful to grip. It should be static line with little stretch.
Never wrap a rescue rope around your hand - learn to use a fireman's grip. See throw rope.
