Reflected

When waves encounter an obstruction, some of the wave will rebound off the obstruction and be reflected back from where it came. A beach is a poor reflector with most of the wave energy being absorbed by the beach. But a large steep, flat cliff is a very good reflector with almost all the energy being reflected. This can create clapotis where the incoming waves interact with the outgoing reflected wave.
