Reading

From KayakWiki

Audubon Society field guides are the archetypal reading material for any outdoor trip. They are the perfect light reading to fill in a few minutes here and there. I hardly ever have the right one at the right time but they are packed with great facts and pictures. My favorites are Guide to the Night Sky (ISBN 0-679-40852-5) and Guide to Weather (ISBN 0-679-40851-7).

A novel or series of short stories helps to pass a rainy day in camp, when going outside just feels miserable.

A wonderful series of books by Sigard Olsen make great reading in the interior wilds of the north country.

Also consider bringing one of the recommended kayak books.

A flat dry bag not only keeps your books dry, but also keeps their pages flat and wrinkle-free--a benefit not offered by stuffing them into your round drybags with your other gear.
