Random orbital sander

A handy tool for shaping wood and Minicel® foam. Sander disc rotates in a clockwise direction against the workpiece, while oscillating in tiny orbits in the same manner as the older standard orbital sander.

Cuts quickly like a disc sander, but smooth like the orbital sander.

As opposed to a rotary sander or a belt sander, the shaping of soft woods can be somewhat better controlled.

Fresh, sharp sandpaper should always be used, but not as critical as with linear (like belt sanders, or circular sanders. More even cutting of spring wood and summer wood grain.

Often this in the major tool purchased by a new builder of a strip built kayak.
