Put in

From KayakWiki

The ideal put in has easy access to the water, parking near by, and a near by port-o-potty.

Of course, a put in is also a take out.

While docks seem like a good idea in that you can get into your boat without getting your feet wet, but it is very rare that a dock is really suitable for kayaks. It is generally easier to have a nice sloping, sheltered beach where you can wade in slightly and then push off. Boat Ramps are OK but they are generally paved and will scratch up your boat if you aren't careful. You also want to be courteous to other boaters who must use the ramp, and don't have the option of putting in anywhere like kayakers do. If there is a convenient place away from the ramp, it is considerate to use that instead.
