Polyester
From KayakWiki
Polyester is a type of plastic. It is fairly strong and relatively resistant to UV damage.
- Resin - It is used to make a liquid resin. As a resin, it is cheap, not extremely strong and not entirely water resistant. Other, more expensive resins are better. In commercial manufacture, polyester resins are used in lower-priced kayaks. Better quality kayaks use vinylester resin.
- Fabric - Polyester is a preferred fabric for tent flies and tarps due to its UV performance. It is also popular as a skin fabric for skin on frame kayaks.
- Line and rope - It is preferred for lines as it doesn't stretch when wet. Use it for deck lines and tie downs.
- Mylar - A trade name for a sheet form of polyester. Occasionally used in kayak repair.
