Mike Jones
From KayakWiki
Dr Mike Jones is a notable kayaker, an inspiration to many of today's expedition paddlers. First descents include Everest, Nile, Orinoco (apologies I can't remember the dates!). Mike (nickname Rupert) was also instrumental in taking Alpine paddling to new levels in the 1970's.
Mike died attempting to rescue another paddler in difficulty on the river on K2. His exploits were for many years remembered in the UK by the annual Mike Jones Rally on the river Dee in North Wales which at their height attracted well over 2000 paddlers (or was it 3000?). Memorable events = the cardboard canoe/kayak races!!
