KayakWiki talk:Copyrights

[edit] Need to choose a licence

We need to chose a licence for all kayakwiki content. It's a pain to talk legalities, but leaving no specified license is bad. It means that technically copyright of all contributions belong to the contributor, and therefore we don't have the right to derive work from it (change their contributions)... which of course doesn't make any sense.

See the 'Licence' section of this page, which give advice for starting up wikis.

I'd be happy with a CC-BY-SA licence. I think it creates more of an atmosphere of good-will, if we allow people to use our content (provided they attribute us and share-alike). This might help attract/retain contributors, and give contibutors that warm fuzzy wiki feeling :-) Would we encounter objections from prior contributors? I don't think so.

The alternative is a more restrictive 'community copyright' (Other websites are not allowed to use our content at all)

Actually there is some text hidden away on the 'How To Start A Page' page, saying that the content is "Free". I guess that was written by Nick Schade a long time ago. Let's be more specific here on this Project:Copyrights page. -- Harry Wood 19:55, 31 July 2006 (EDT)
OK done. Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5. Like it :-) -- Harry Wood 11:58, 7 November 2006 (EST)
I goofed on setting up the wiki's local settings and mis-spelled the page name. No need for re-direct and both a Copyright and a Copyrights page. -- Michael Daly 16:46, 7 November 2006 (EST)

Hi - the site on this page says that content is licensed under Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5 copyright license, where as the logo at bottom of page says its Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5. Which one is correct? --158.125.9.4 11:20, 8 December 2006 (EST)

The banner at the bottom of the page is correct - Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5 License. Michael Daly 13:11, 8 December 2006 (EST)
