Eddy line

From KayakWiki

An eddy line forms at the edge of an Eddy, where the recirculating water of the eddy meets with the fast moving water in the central flow of the river. In larger eddies, with more powerful upstream recirculation, this line is more prominent, and can represent a considerable obstacle. The eddy line itself is characterised by boily unpredictable water, which can deflect the kayak, making it difficult to cross without gathering some speed to punch through. This effect is only seen in large eddies.

Even in small eddies however, the eddy line is common place to see beginners being capsized, because of the change in water speed/direction as one crosses the line.
