Grade: Class III-Class IV (Mid / Low water)
Length: 11.3 kilometers
Time needed: 2 hours
Season:May or after rain only
Description:
Located very near Swedish border this river would make an ideal chillout from the harder rivers of Western Hedmark while giving an opportunity to shop petrol and food for half the price in Sweden. It's not too dissimilar from the Upper Dart in England, so perhaps add one to the grade if it's tonking.
It looks really dissapointing and shallow at the take-out and put-in, though in between you will find an excellent and distinctive piece. As it is poorly documented I suspect this little gem doesn't get the attention it deserves.
Put in on the first road bridge upstream of the main road in Ljørdal, expect about 3 km of easier water. The fun starts when you see a small bridge cross the river. It is possible to put on here but it is a private house! After about 3km of fun you will see a horizonline, the drop, slide, is quite runnable but it looks as though the stopper would be big in high water. There is one more difficult section about 1 km further downstream, the bumble. Gradually easing off after this, for thouse off us with 4x4 use the track on river right to cut out the final flat section.
Now go and run the Bergåa falls, 2 km drive from the takeout, and light a barberque.
