Closed cell foam

A foam plastic that does not absorb water.

The cells (bubbles) in the foam are completely closed and will not allow water to enter. Neoprene and Minicel are common types of closed cell foam, while EVA is also used in sleeping pads.

In contrast, open cell foam contains cells that are open (the bubble burst during inflation) and can absorb water.
