Clapotis
From KayakWiki
In general, waves that are chaotic. Clapotis is usually caused by the interaction of waves coming from more than one direction.
Interesting variations of clapotis are:
- Waves that reflect off of a cliff or sea wall and rebound directly out parallel to the incoming waves. This can cause the incoming and outgoing waves to collide and throw water straight up in the air.
- Waves that come together at a tight angle to each other. This causes the waves to form a Vee pattern and surfing the Vee can be quite exciting.
- Waves that come from many different directions (usually by reflecting off of several sea walls, as in some harbours). This causes the water surface to erupt in innumerable peaks.
