Carve

From KayakWiki

Carving a turn describes the use of an edged kayak to enhance the turning moment.

A sea kayak has an assymetric hull when on edge. This results in the hull not tracking straight on edge. If the kayak has forward motion, the kayak will tend to turn in the direction of the raised side of the hull. Combining this carving ability with a forward sweep, you can enhance the ease of turning.
