Camp chair
From KayakWiki
There are a number of comfortable camp chairs. Once you reach a certain age, going for more than a couple of days on a trip without a seat with a back is not exactly comfort - YMMV.
- Thermarest conversion kits - these are seats made with fabric, webbing and a couple of plastic struts. You put a Thermarest inflatable mattress into them. They are sized for each size of mattress. These make very comfortable chairs and the fabric and strut bundle doesn't take up too much room.
- Folding foam seats - these look superficially like the Thermarest chairs, but contain stiff, closed cell foam padding. A bit bulkier than the Thermarest versions when packed. Most folks I know lash them, folded, to the rear deck of the kayak.
- Two-piece wood-framed chairs - these are simple framed chairs that come apart in two pieces that nest for storage. The fabric seat and back are not padded. Pretty comfortable, but bulky in storage - not suitable for putting inside a kayak.
- Multi-strut and fabric folding chairs - reminiscent of Buckminster Fuller's tensegrity structures, these are quite popular for car camping. The smallest variants can be carried in a kayak.
One opinion:
I like rocks. Chairs suck.
