Butane solder gun

When building a SOF craft, a large number of lashings must be made. Each is knotted with 6-10 hitches and then the cord is cut. Better than cutting the cord is melting it (if nylon or synthetic) because the small balls of melted plastic act as stoppers to keep the knot from becoming undone.
A great tool in cutting the cords is a small butane soldering torch, which has a precise blue flame which can be directed down or to the side. In this it is very superior to a lighter or match.
