Special considerations
Be prepared to launch and land in surf if the weather allows. It's a long shallow sandy beach, so surf is relatively safe. It's a good place to practice in conditions not often found in the Great Lakes.
Recommended
You can paddle into Hamilton Harbour - a relatively protected area. The WWII destroyer Haida is tied up on the Hamilton side. If you paddle to the end of the harbour, there's a liftover into Coote's Paradise, a protected wildlife breeding area. Paddling is permitted in most parts of Coote's in all seasons. Others are closed only in specific breeding seasons. Signs indicate where you can go.
