Broken paddle roll

From KayakWiki

This is a roll in an emergency with severely damaged paddle.

This is a useful roll to practice - it not only allows you to be prepared if your paddle does break, but it trains you to roll with less leverage than a complete paddle.

  1. Snapped shaft - half paddle.
    • Set up for Screw roll as if using C1 paddle.
    • You'll have a bit less leverage so make your sweep clean.
  2. Left holding only a shaft
    • Set up as if for butterfly roll.
    • Solid hipflick - you'll have little buoyancy in the shaft.
