Backup Strategy
From KayakWiki
Now that we are running on MediaWiki software, we can change the backup strategy. It may be a little easier using the Special:Export feature.
The idea of this is to provide a little extra assurance that your efforts adding content to kayakwiki will not be wasted. This means we are protected against...
- Disaster fire/flood/earthquakes/criminal damage/theft of the webserver equipment
- The owner of kayakwiki (or whoever is hosting it) deciding to pull the plug for whatever reason.
Originally User:Harry Wood created a little java program which remotely accessed every page of the old usemod kayakwiki, and created a backup of all of the wiki text. Now anyone can take their own backups using the Special:Export feature.
At present, I am taking regular backups to CD of the entire Kayakwiki environment - Apache/PHP/Mediawiki/MySQL. About 250MB total each time.Michael Daly 01:21, 5 May 2006 (EDT)
