[edit] Flat Water Places
Arizona has several large resevoirs. They are popular sites for motorboating and jet-skiing, but if you can put up with the noise and wakes, they can provide kayakers interesting scenery, good fishing, and a great way to escape the heat.
Arizona does not require registration or permits for non-motorized watercraft although a $6 parking/usage permit must be purchased at stores on the way to the lakes in the Tonto National forest(which includes all the lakes in the Salt River chain of lakes).
A small sampling of Arizona's lakes:
- Apache Lake
- Ashurst Lake
- Big Lake
- Canyon Lake
- Lower Colorado River
- Lake Havasu
- Lake Mead
- Lake Mohave
- Lake Mary, Lower
- Lake Mary, Upper
- Lake Pleasant
- Lake Powell
- Patagonia Lake
- Roosevelt Lake
- Saguaro Lake
- Watson Lake
