Aleut

From KayakWiki

Term used to describe the indigenous peoples of the Aleutian Islands in Southwest Alaska. A literal translation of 'Aleut' means "People". Preferred to the term 'Eskimo'. "Aleut" has also been used as a generic term to include Aleuts and Alutiit, but there has been a recent trend amoung the people of the Kodiak Island Archipelago, the southern coast of the Alaska Peninsula, Prince William Sound, and the lower tip of the Kenai Peninsula to distinguish themselves as Alutiiq.
